Results represent fibrinogen Equilvalent Units (FU) expressed in mg/L

 

The stated reference value (mormal <0.5mg/L) is the cutoff to use for excclusion of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) for patients with likely pretest probabilities of having a DVT or PE using the Well's Criteria.

Special Handling

The specimen must be tested within 4 hours from the time of collection. If testing is not    complete within 4 hours, specimen plasma can be frozen at -20°C or below for short term storage (up to 2 weeks) or -70°C or below for long term storage.
