Interpretive Data
HbA1c levels higher than the upper end of this reference range are an indication of hyperglycemia during the preceding 2 to 3 months or longer. According to the recommendations of the American Diabetes Association values above 6.5% HbA1c (DCCT/NGSP) are suitable for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Patients with HbA1c values in the range of 5.7 - 6.4% HbA1c (DCCT/NGSP) may be at risk of developing diabetes.
