Collection Instructions

A culture of the anterior nares may be submitted to detect staphylococcal carriers.

Obtain a Mini-Tip Culturette swab.

Remove cap from the tube to exposed mini-tip swab.

Insert swab into the nose until resistance is met at the level of the turbinates, approximately 1 inch into the nose.

Carefully rotate the swab against the nasal mucosa and remove.

Repeat procedure in other nostril, and then return swab to Culturette.

Assure that protective safety shield is over ampule, then break ampule once by pressing at the midpoint.

Push cap to bring swab into contact with moistened pledget.
