Vaginal Smear will determine if clue cells are present and if bacterial flora is consistent with vaginosis.

Warm speculum with water and insert into vagina Do Not use lubricants.(usual lubricants are lethal to gonococci).
Collect specimen from the mucosa high in the vaginal canal with a single swab culturette.
Place swab in the transport tube and crush ampule of transport media to moisten swab.
